I stayed in Etoile this past July and had a great experience. Personally I didn't find it "too far" from anything; it is very accessible (metro/cab/uber).
You would not be wasting a lot of time going to the heart of Paris as if you were staying at CDG.

The rooms are definitely small but we had a fantastic view of the Eiffel tower. The executive lounge was closed at the time but they provided breakfast in the restaurant. Whatever you decide, Enjoy and safe travels!
