I got myself the QC2s a few months back and they are superb. The sound quality doesn't match my B&O in earphones but for the sheer reduction in sound they are amazing.
They do cut out just ambient noise so engine rumble and that whistling goes but crying babies are as a result amplified but so are PAs ^ The British ex-public school mumble all BA pilots seem to have while on the PA system becomes understandable @:-)
I had them on flights to and from SFO and wore them in my sleep and are more comfortable for this purpose than expected. In fact even if you aren't listening to music or watching a movie it is a good idea to keep them on. You can switch them off on the side and the noise comes rusing back, then if you switch them on again you get a gradual fade away......
They also come in a rather nice hard sided carry case which fits nicely in your bag keeping them in A1 condition. Also worth noting is if you use BA Amex you get 5miles per £ if you quote some code when paying. The miles post alongside your other Amex miles so no worries about rollbacks at end of promotion or whatever it is called.
If I flew regularly or took the train a lot I wouldn't think twice about these.
