Haven't done the HdL yet, but reviews look promising...have done the Etoile a couple times now...and while it's a good bang for the buck on work trips, not really sure you want to stay there on a special Paris trip.

Convenient enough w/the Metro, breakfast in the lobby perfectly fine, you have a lounge, gym is solid...but IMO it may grow tiresome after a couple days. Standard rooms even w/ a view are pretty small, so you would need to be in a suite for sure. Area is just fine, plenty of restaurants and bars and such, but nothing special.

And when visiting Paris on holiday...you really want to be in the heart of Paris!
