As I am covered for Gold now until BAEC ends the GFL benefit, I'm clearly in an OK position, my perspective on the effort required to keep GGL (above Gold) is currently the following:
- Calls are still answered relatively quickly on the GGL line so I hope they would have my back with any significant IRROPS.
- The CCR is a nice place to be and if one is a regular then the staff are really good.
- I've had some nice invites to events even during the pandemic, with the rugby being a highlight.
But:
- Boarding has become a lottery, with inexperienced staff often allowing it to turn into a scrum of Groups 1-3. As becoming a GGL takes more than 10x the TPs than a Bronze, there should be better differentiation, ideally similar to CK boarding on AA.
- Inflight is now clearly split between experienced and inexperienced crews. I have been looked after very well on some flights but also been treated in a borderline rude fashion when the CC were looking for people to move seats to put a couple together.
- I've allowed my expectations to be reduced by BA which, when paying the same as before the pandemic, isn't really right. I know it's been an awful time for them and they had to make tough decisions in short timeframes but it will take them a long time to get service back to where it should be for the value equation to be right for me.
- For me, the effort to renew GGL above Gold is not the difference between 1500 and 3000 TPs, it's the difference between 0 and 3000 TPs. That's a big number for some pretty average additional benefits at the moment. If they could fix boarding, including at outstations, that might tip it for me, but nowadays the difference between Gold and GGL is pretty minimal for that many TPs.

There in lies the problem As an senior, seniority doesn’t affect me as I need to work in the same position all the time. I do however want experienced confident crews to work in First and Club. When I started flying, it was nearly 15 years before you got near First. Now there are crew in First and Club who’ve done 2 years.
