Question Feel like we deserve EU261 compensation, but from whom?

Hi all,

Have a somewhat complex situation and would really appreciate your thoughts/advice. Here goes:

1) NBO-FRA-GVA itinerary booked on a single LH (220) ticket

2) Original booked flights:

LH591 03.12.2021 NBO 23:00 - FRA 05:30+1
LH1212 04.12.2021 FRA 07:05 - GVA 08:10

3) Rebooked flight:

Due to the 59-minute delay on arrival in Frankfurt (reason given: snow at FRA, however inbound arrived late in Nairobi, resulting in a 50 minutes delay at departure), we missed our scheduled connection and were rebooked on the following flight:
LX1081 04.12.2021 FRA 09:05 - GVA 10:10

4) Actual flight times:

LH591 03.12.2021 NBO 23:50 - FRA 06:29+1
LX1081 04.12.2021 FRA 12:14 - GVA 13:22

So our arrival delay in GVA was just over 5 hours vs. our original booking. Basically, everything that possibly could go wrong with the inbound LX GVA-FRA flight (LX1080) did: they were delayed somewhat due to the weather conditions in FRA and then the plane had a technical fault that required an equipment swap. If the LX flight had operated as scheduled, our delay on arrival in GVA would have only been 2 hours.

Not sure if this makes any difference, but I was not informed of my passenger rights by either LH or LX.

My initial thought would be to claim from LH, since the original delay leaving NBO was the root cause. However I fear that they will simply blame the weather for that relatively minor delay, while the LX delay was mainly caused by a mechanical issue on the inbound flight.

So my questions:
1) Which airline (LH or LX) should I file a claim with and how (web form, snail mail)?
2) As a Swiss resident, what is my best avenue of recourse if the airline denies my claim?

Thanks in advance for your words of wisdom!
