People like to rip on the Platinum card as a coupon card and, while there is certainly some validity to that, if you offer a wide array of benefits then you are not going to please every
one with every
thing you offer. That said, it is still fairly easy to use a portion of the Platinum card's benefits and come out ahead of the annual fee. In my case, the benefits that I do utilize tend to be leagues ahead of the competitors'.
I am amused by how offended people seem to be by these art offerings, certainly they appear to be serving as strawmen for larger grievances.
I don't care for any of the companies' business practices so I'm not here to hail one or the other. But in my opinion, the Platinum is a complicated coupon card which requires a lot of time and attention to offset the annual fee and get any value from it, and 1x on all purchases is pitiful. I almost never actually charge any purchases to it. The Venture X is loaded with straightforward benefits, good enough to be a daily driver card, and the annual fee is offset with very little effort.
