Hi all
Has anyone got actual experience of travelling, ideally post Omicron, from UK to Canada VIA the USA. I have a trip booked as follows and planning tests as detailed below. Wondering if through actual experience someone can identify any potential flaw(s). NB - I know it can all change tomorrow, but working on an as is basis...
18th Dec 14:45 BA297 LHR-ORD
19th Dec 08:25 AA3195 ORD-DTW (rest of day catching up with family in Detroit area, including a large family meal in a restaurant)
20th Dec by end of day local time I will have crossed the border into Canada by land Detroit to Windsor and met up with sister and family.
Test wise I believe I have two best options:
1. Rapid PCR test taken on the morning of the 18th @ LHR. This will see me into the US, and is still within the 72 hours that Canada is currently requiring (cost c£115)
2. Antigen on morning of 18th that will get me into the USA (£35), then a PCR test LHR but a next day results one for £55, as I will then have received the results by email by cob Sun UK time, which means I'll have the results before I enter Canada.
As things stand I believe either option will work. I am trying to avoid expensive rapid PCR testing in the US.
A. Have you transited the US en route to Canada and how did you do it from a Covid testing perspective?
B. Have I missed anything out in my 'theory' above?
C. If Canada did require a test taken in the US before crossing the border where did you get one done, how long did the results take, and what did it cost?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help - I'm sure I'm not the first person to have had this conundrum, and I will post my experience once completed, for reference for others.
Have a great Christmas to all who celebrate, and a happy holiday season to all others.
Safe travels
