The suggestions presented work assuming your Credit Card account is still active as you will need to pay for the itinerary with a BofA Alaska Airlines co-branded credit card when a companion certificate is attached.
If your account is still active you will be issued a new certificate shortly after the one you have expires.
If you closed your account, your options are limited. You can use wallet funds but that precludes purchasing refundable fares.

Thanks. Good point. I do still have the credit card. And I also have a new anniversary certificate that was issued last month, about 3 weeks before this one expires.
