For Air Canada, it's just another payment method among their zoo of platforms that they support
I'm not sure that it's even a new payment method for AC, sounds like it just automatically triggers a statement credit on the Amex side to offset the CC charge.
Amex wants people to redeem for 1cpp instead of higher valuation rewards, so it makes sense that they would pay AC to add this option.
