If you *don’t* use it, cancel the trip. Fare is refundable. You get your money back. Something like SEA-PDX in fully refundable Y in late 2022 should do the trick.
Thanks. So just buy the cheapest refundable fare I can find with companion fare added on and that preserves the companion fare for a year by virtue of being able to "change" the ticket later subject to fare difference. Very smart. I appreciate your help.
