Companion fare voucher expires in a week

I have a companion fare voucher from my Bank of America visa card that expires in about a week. My wife and I MIGHT want to fly on Alaska in January but really not sure right now and won't know for weeks.

Is there any way to get any value from this voucher or transfer it someone who can use it?

I saw some older posts online about booking speculatively and then canceling as a way to extend the certificate but I don't know if that's still viable. I don't want to get stuck with Alaska flight credits I may be unable to use anytime soon.

If there's a risk free way to extend the certificate, I'd be interested. Thanks.
