I'm sure some people will agree with you, but for balance of opinion, I really dislike buffets and much prefer table service.
My main issue is that buffets make you dependent upon the hygiene habits of others who might not share your own (as opposed to the hygiene duties of professionals who are bound by some minimum standards). On that front, I have seen pretty horrible things over the year (people coughing over the food, people putting things back from their plate to the buffet dishes, including with bare hands, people helping themselves with bare hands, leaving hair around, etc). I also think it sometimes gets the worst out of people who pile up huge plates of food which they do not consume. Third, I think that buffets make it far more likely to experience the lukewarm food you were unhappy about than table service.
Again, I realise t hat many, many people share your view rather than mine and I fully accept that, but for me personally, table service is something that I much prefer.
