Just returned from a five night stay at the GH Playa del Carmen. I used points for one room and paid cash for the second. Both were upgraded to King Suites using Suite Upgrade Certificates. The resort is beautiful and in very good condition. A few notes:

1. When we checked in at 6pm on our day of arrival there were placed on rooms on different floors and on opposite sides of the resort. I was perplexed about this since we booked weeks in advance – I feel that they could have done a better job placing us closer together. They indicated that the resort was full and there was nothing they could do.

2. The Grand Club is great. We ate breakfast daily and had happy hour twice while there. It was also a good spot to grab a soda during the day. The staff there were exceptional.

3. We ordered room service on the first evening. We were told it would take 45 minutes and it had nor arrived after an hour. We reached out and were told it would be another 45 minutes. We just cancelled the order. They must be having staffing issues like many other properties.

4. The pool area is incredible. That said, there were a lot of dirty tables between sun loungers that clearly had not been cleaned overnight. We noticed ketchup and other items that had been overlooked.

5. Covid tests were administered the day before we departed. They have converted a guest room into a makeshift clinic. We got the results within 90 minutes.

6. The surrounding area has so many restaurants/bars/shops. We ate at some of the local restaurants three times and generally the food was good with great service. The atmosphere is great.

We’re already looking forward to our next visit!
