A bit aside (and nonetheless belated), but it's debatable... while physically located in Arlington, Virginia, the Pentagon actually has a Washington DC mailing address and zip codes. Virginia and local municipalities have no jurisdiction on the Pentagon Reservation. Also, a bit of trivia, but the Boundary Channel (immediately east of The Pentagon) marks the boundary between Virginia and Washington DC (making some of the landmass on the western bank - Virginia side - of the Potomac immediately adjacent to the Pentagon technically part of DC).
IIRC, I've also been asked the same in South America and Asia when flying AA (but the European stations seem to be the most militant/deliberate about the questioning).

Hmm, interesting. I guess they do it only on busy routes. Is it only AA who does this or do other US owned airlines have it?
