The problem is sometimes the fares are not just a little bit more, but like 60% more ($49 versus $79) for example. It almost would make sense to buy 2 saver fares, because when you want to change the $79 fare it might not be available for that price anymore. Unless you mean book 2 $79 fares.

Yeah, the Saver v. Main fare spread seems to be widening as time goes on. I seem to remember when they first came out a few years ago it was usually around $20. Now it's often $50+ on a $250 fare. I generally don't consider the Saver since I've got good status and am hoping for an upgrade but the prices are appealing. Honestly, I'd be much more likely to opt for a Saver if I weren't 6'4" and value legroom so much.
