What airline has a hub in NYC that I should be loyal to for miles and lounge access?
How many flights/how much will you spend in a year? Frequent flyer programs are morphing into frequent spender programs.
Class of travel?
It may not be in your best interests in to be loyal, but select flights/airlines on schedule and price. Treat any ff miles as a bonus that may/may not be be used in the future.

What will you do with ff miles? Get any ff miles from credit card spend?

USA ffp's generally do not give lounge access for USA-regional flights due to status. With some airlines if you fly $$ first class may get lounge access. May be better to get lounge access by credit card and/or join a lounge, with $$, for lounge access .
