I had exactly that situation about two months ago. My bag was at the luggage service office when I got down to baggage claim after eating. I stayed in FL until they closed around 11ish.

I do find it remarkable that in 50 years of traveling I've never had a bag stolen off a carousel. I once had a bag stolen after I was out at the curb waiting for a rental car shuttle, but never on the carousel.
