I don't believe you get any PQF for award flights, unless there is a special promo going on for it?

Based on what you said it probably isn't worth taking a flight just for gold status, since I value my time for a flight more than the ~$300 you would save on the eco plus seats. The calculations gets even worse once you factor in the cost of the flight you will need for the PQF itself.
