I would say besides some of the aforementioned annoyances, I cannot imagine how they could've assigned a lesser quality (or tinier!) room. From our little closet, we had no view and 24x7 noise from the passing golf carts and golf cart trains, drunks coming and going all hours (very near to the main lobby/entrance bldg w/ bar, etc). I had let them know well in advance this was a special occasion kind of trip, and that since SNAs are not valid at Ritz properties I would be willing to pay for an upgraded room (in spite of LTTE status, which I know they disregard as a matter of policy). To no avail. And this was a shoulder season visit - I do not at all believe all of the nice rooms were full, they simply wanted to ensure my points visit was something I'd think long and hard about before ever repeating.

I would add this little tidbit: No one asked how my stay was upon checking out. Pretty sure they knew the answer to that question. My checkout process consisted largely of having parking removed from my bill FOR A THIRD TIME during my 5-day stay. Easily the worst points redemption experience in my long history with the program. But it's a Ritz, so this was not a complete blind-side. I had warned my wife beforehand that they were likely to wheel a bed onto an elevator and call it good. They managed only slightly better.
