Its basic contract law. For example, I came across this today https://www.staffordshire-live.co.uk...asylum-6219277 and the same happened to me for the purposes of quarantine at a UK Hilton. You think its fine they cancel the stays, events and persons booked may need to pay more to obtain similar accommodation? No, that's nonsense.

A refund (if prepaid) is not enough. If alternate, similar, accommodation was more expensive, you'd be entitled to claim the difference.

Add in (Unfair Contract Terms) Consumer Rights Act for consumers which most FTers are. I'm surprised you think in Europe (EU and UK) any hotel can just cancel a reservation and say bugger off.

I've already pointed out there's force majeure: terrorism, weather etc. A hotel closing cos they think its in their financial interest is not force majeure.
