I've managed to hit MVPG last year (2020) and this year (2021), but only because of the AS offers for extra 50% EQM and bonus EQM's for card spend. In a normal year I only fly around 20k-25k (mostly vacation) and MVP is the best I can hope for. So for 2022 my MVPG status will stay and I'll enjoy the benefits, but I'm not expecting to be able to re-earn MVPG in 2022 for 2023 and that makes me sad... so I'm working on a plan and came here for all of you wonderful people to shoot the plan full of holes, because that's what groups like this are best at.

- AS is my preferred airline (live north of seattle) and I want to keep flying AS as much as possible.
- I want to maintain a status that gives me a chance at F upgrades and also be able to get a companion upgraded.

With the recent announcement of changes to AA's loyalty program, we can now earn status using card spend. I'm in a position where I could spend ~125k on a new AA credit card in 2022 and earn Platinum Pro. Then I'd switch to using an AA frequent flyer number in 2023, while still booking flights on Alaska. What are the pros/cons of using AA Plat Pro vs MVPG while doing all of my flying with AS?
