Whether they meant as the traditional meaning of a form of gov't or the more modern "doing social good" usage is irrelevant. As an American businessman, there are some movements that, if I can help it, never be associated with even tangentially, and, irrespective of how it's meant, the word Socialist is certainly at or neat the top of that list. And, as you've observed, should I ever find myself in Copenhagen, it wouldn't be difficult to find comparable lodgings elsewhere.
Yeah, the name is clearly controversial regardless of intent given how active this thread is for an otherwise low tier full service Marriott property. No way a hotel that charges around $200-$300 a night in a place like a Copenhagen would cause this much discussion otherwise. I doubt there was an intended double entendre but the socialist hotel is not really going after the same market as the Nimb or even Hotel D'Angleterre lol
