Thanks for the information!
I might have come straight off the ark,
but i was always under the impression that the sequence of hotel room/suites catagories were:
(from best to less)
-------------------------
1) presidential / royal / penthouse suite (usually only 1 of those + has at least 2 toilets)
2) signature suites (usually with a famous person's name and an special theme/decoration)
3) executive / deluxe suite (has at least a separate living room with sofa AND a dining table)
4) senior / 1 bedroom suite (has at least a separate living room with sofa)
5) junior suite (has a sofa but there is no divide between living space and bed)
---------------------------------
6) club / executive room (has club/executive lounge access but might be slighly improved on (floor/location and amenities) then deluxe rooms
7) deluxe room (the biggest of room types, fits at least a KING or TWIN bed, usually with view)
8) superior room (on lower floors or has partial views
9) standard room (has all the basic hotel amenities, at least a Queen bed, less desirable location / floor / next to the elevators or service lifts [[usually used for REWARDS redemption] )
* seperate mention are:
A - connecting rooms (can be any room/suite type effectively turning it into two bedrooms )
B - family room (mostly at family hotels, sleeps at least 4 - can be a connecting room aswel)
C - handicapped / accessible room ( adapted for functional use for the impaired - seems almost never a suite type)
D - heritage (implies an historical background/design/theme where you sacrifice modern for nostalgia )
E - ocean / sea / mountain / volcano / whatever view (the trickiest category because it usually invokes surcharges / upgrade headaches)
as Raynyan has written about the new catagories, my thoughts are:
- easy to see where the upgrade chain goes to the next catagory (if as straight forward)
- less catagories means higher upgrades
- classic, becomes the avoid, because it implies unrenovated junk or a way to masquearade undesirable rooms
