We were in a situation once where we didn't find out until in the shower in the morning that there was no "medium" water - either boiling hot or freezing cold, nothing in between. They brought up a key immediately to the room next door so we could shower there. This was at an airport Fairfield Inn. I was really impressed with their resolution...we had only asked for maintenance to come but they preemptively offered the other room.
They could just as easily fixed your problem with a quick key to an empty room (was the a/c working in your friend's room, or was the whole suite messed up?).
