I've been in a similar situation a few years ago in SE Asia - only without any status and in a regular room. FD offered me another room for the night, apologizing that they can't move me right away (I was in a double, and they were sold out, so I've got a twin). Next morning they fixed the AC and still offered me an upgrade to a better room for the rest of my stay. I declined, so they sent me a bottle of wine as a present.
