Yes, and there are legitimate companies that aren't scammy. Some will sell you exactly what you need, including "any reason" cancellation (but not necessarily within x days of travel, or has to occur within x days of purchase, etc.)
Also, what kind of insurance does AA/BA offer during the purchase? I know that over the past several years, I've clicked NO on so many flight purchases, but never really looked at what those policies offer.
Also also, some of the travel insurance policies also include coverage that you may need or want for COVID-related issues during travel.
