On the travel insurance, when did you buy the ticket? This is important because travel insurance has pre-existing condition limitations unless you buy the insurance within so many days of making your first payment on the trip. Since your mother is already ill, they may not pay out any benefit.
Oh I've used the no change fee already a few times this year, mostly on trips to see her, just wondering if they'd not charge the major new price difference if the ONLY reason for returning home was for a direct relative's death, with proof. I haven't bought THIS particular ticket yet. Her sickness is ALS, and honestly, she should have died a year ago. Somehow she's still around and it could be next week or another 6 months. Hence, I can't put life on hold forever.
