From AlwaysAisle's report though sounds like the B6 code is an impediment to automatic upgrade.
The impediment may be by design. The page does actually stipulate the benefits when flying B6 metal, or B6 codeshare on AA metal:
To earn AAdvantage® miles when you fly on JetBlue marketed and operated flights as well as JetBlue codeshare flights operated by American Airlines:
And the 500-mile elite upgrades are stipulated the same on the relevant page:
https://www.aa.com/i18n/aadvantage-p...e-upgrades.jsp
AAdvantage® elite status members can upgrade from any eligible purchased, published fare in the Main Cabin or Premium Economy to the next class of service (Business or domestic First) for travel within North America on eligible American Airlines marketed and operated flights
That being said - if you ask at the gate and they grant it, then that's great. Has anyone tried to call in and get their upgrade request submitted when flying on a codeshare flight operated by AA? My guess is that the answer will be no, in line with the policy as stated above.
