But the point that they can do it automated with those 30 countries, helps only if you're from one of those countries and have a qr code from the national system.
ETA: Somebody upthread said they submitted the California health pass QR code and got instant approval. I wonder what sort of validation they are actually doing?

It helps that California uses CommonPass, which some airlines are starting to use and can be internationally verified. Much better than the paper CDC cards. New York has the Excelsior Pass, which is also compatible with many international verification standards. New Jersey uses Docket which may also work.
