In these cases I ask at the front desk if they can add my number so I earn points on incidentals, sometimes they provide additional benefits associated with my status, sometimes they don't. Go in expecting nothing, because that's what the rules say, and you won't be disappointed but you may be pleasantly surprised if they provide some benefits.
