Like the others have said, the situation varies greatly by where you are going. There further east and south you go, the worse the situation is (and it's bad). As there isn't a gov't formed yet at the federal level, it's back to the usual chaos of state-level and local restrictions that vary and change rapidly. Don't see this improving for at least the next 6-8 weeks; it will likely get worse.

In the région Rhein-Main, the Christmas markets are still ongoing. Some are open to all, others require the health pass (vaccinated/recovered/PCR test).

Also consider the risk of contracting Covid and testing positive before your flight to the US. A work colleague is out sick because he tested positive despite the whole family being vaccinated.
