I was under the impression that some issuers only objected to people buying open-ended cards like Visa gifts cards, no closed system ones like Amazon. Can anyone clarify?

For an example, imagine Amex isn't supposed to give me points on Visa cards but they will on Amazon cards, if I buy both on Amazon will I see that one got points and one didn't?
