A guest might not need his/her Capital One card, but it definitely would make things easier. Technically, if you're not using a pass, I think you need a Capital One card to charge the $45 member fee, instead of the $65 guest fee. They use a handheld card reader. I don't how that would work with a digital card. I also don't know if you can charge the $45 member fee on a non-Capital One card.
New Venture X cardmembers can show a copy of their acceptance email or a screen print of their new account info for complimentary entry until they receive their new card.
