I had a situation a while back where I arrived at at TRU shortly after midnight. The night clerk had just gone on duty and was apparently new at the job. He had canceled all outstanding reservations as no shows. So when I checked in he had no record of my reservation even though I had done online check in earlier that evening. Fortunately, since I had checked in earlier and knew my room number, he just used his pass key to let us in the room, but we never got our own keys for the room.
In the morning, when I tried to sort it out with the person on duty, they simply created a new reservation and issued me keys - but when I checked out I found out I had been charged twice for the room: once for my original reservation and again for the new reservation that had been created. I was promised that the second charge would be removed, but a few days later it hadn't been.
I started emailing the manager of the hotel and after about two weeks they finally responded - apologizing and saying they had been on vacation. This manager refunded my money entirely, so I ended up not paying.
