Am on a Qantas J redemption ticket. Will be spending last two nights of Madrid stay in Valencia. I'm tossing up a separate PNR booking MAD-VLC-MAD as QF shows redemption seats still available OR have option of Renfe train.
The earliest flight out of VLC on the Sat I need to fly out on arrives in MAD(Air Nostrum) at 10.40AM. (It seems to have an excellent on-time rating, arriving as early as 10.10AM in recent history) I then need to connect with CX: MAD-(HKG)-SYD at 12.20PM. It looks as though I arrive into T4 and depart with CX from T4s. The train choices I have arrive into Atocha at 9 or 9.40AM meaning I'd still need to change and get a train to airport.
I'm thinking maybe I should be OK with flight option? i.e. Arriving domestic connecting to international. Is there no hope/chance of IB in VLC checking my bags straight through to SYD considering I'm ow emerald on J class tickets? Not being familiar with IB or MAD transfer dynamics makes this hard.
Help
IB don't do through-checking. You can ask, but expect a no. With checked luggage, you simply don't have enough time to pick up your luggage and rush upstairs to check it in again before the CX desk closes.

Personally, I would be spending the prior night in Madrid. Why risk missing a long haul flight in J? But if you absolutely must be in Valencia, I would take the first AVE up in the morning.
