I thought I was a savvy traveler- Morocco changed that. Cautionary tale

I flew JFK-CMN-RAK was surprised when landing in CMN there was no passport stamp. Didn’t get stamped until RAK. Thought it was weird since if you were just flying CMN-RAK how would they handle this? Everyone went through border control on RAK one line not separated out by nationality.

My flight home I did the reverse. I had a long 9 hour layover in CMN and booked a city tour. I was stamped out at Marrakesh which I thought was odd I should be stamped out at Casablanca I thought. When I landed in Casablanca I mentioned to the guard in the arrival area I was going on a city tour and he sent me away and back through the transit area. I was forced into the main terminal. I mentioned to about 5 different airport workers that I have a booked tour in the city. No one was willing to help me exit the airport or provide any answers. Eventually I was escorted to passport control where they refused to stamp me into Morocco again! They said I don’t have enough time and they wouldn’t allow it! Really frustrating! I don’t believe I had an option not to be stamped out at Marrakesh.

On an aside Casablanca airport is filled with scammers! Airport bathroom janitors hold toilet paper hostage looking for tips. I took out 2000 dirham for my layover tour in Casablanca so I had extra currency. No money exchanges or sim
card dealers in transit area. Duty free wouldn’t accept Moroccan currency on liquor that wasn’t Moroccan what a scam!! Tried to get Change in euros they shaved off 25% to exchange it if I accepted it! Whole Casablanca airport experienced ruined my wonderful Marrakesh experience
