I just selected GUC's for one of my 2021 and one of my 2022 CB's. I have 2 unused 2020 GUCs so I have a total of 10 that I intend to use in 2022 + 2 of the 2021's which are already confirmed for a January trip.
I was looking at flights earlier today, JFK-XXX, thinking that I'd be able to use RUC's on 3 Class aircraft and found that every 3 Class flight I looked at over various dates starting in January had no certificate availability while many of the 4 Class flights on the same day had PS availability.
I'll likely go for partner flights while they're still 3 Class aircraft and if I can't get those, I'll end up with the 8,000RDMs per unused GUC.
Since GUCs are the major benefit I receive from maintaining DM it's very unlikely that I'll continue to do so. We'll put $30K of spend on each of our Reserve Cards and I'll maintain PM with my regular flying plus MrsSG's Reserve MQM's as well as mine, and will only need 45K MQM a year to maintain PM. With a rollover of 400K+ MQM this year and an expectation that it'll grow by at least 100K in 2022 I'll have many years of PM (until DL changes the requirements).
We'll also go back to TATL nonrev which should be no worse than playing the GUC gate lottery.
