There are several reason that the bonus can be denied, previously holding the same card is only one. Do you have open American Express cards that are seldom used? Do you have a history of opening American Express cards to earn a bonus, and then not spending on them or closing them? This pattern is unprofitable for American Express, and you'll need to use your existing cards for some months to demonstrate a different pattern.
