The excuse is they can't give them an adjacent boarding pass. You could do it for at least one, do A-15 (BS) and A-16 (Companion), even if there are several on a flight and they can't have immediately consecutive boarding positions, I think they'd be okay with that. I like to buy BS now sometimes to earn extra A-List qualification points since it's not prohibitively expensive all the time.
