I just called in to upgrade it up to the Silver version and the representative said my card can not be changed from the free version, period.
I could just apply for the Red version, the problem is I believe you're not allowed to change versions of card within a year of opening a new account. Are they not letting me change my old card because it was changed in the past year? Anyone have any experience with changing versions of this card? I guess I may just have to apply for the Citi card to earn bonus tier miles next year, or wait the year on the Red card to be able to upgrade it.
So, a few weeks ago before all the changes were announced I had gotten a letter from Barclays telling me they were going to shut me down if I didn't spend on my card, and I didn't want the credit line to close so I made a $3.xx purchase for something. My statement closed and I got an email today and I logged into my account and they had the offer for me to upgrade back to the Red card, then hopefully once I start using that some in the new year I'll get an offer for the Silver card.
