Avelo HVN review

Hi All,

I’m on the inaugural HVN-FLL flight now.

Online check in was a breeze and normal.

Security took a while - no pre-check is available at HVN. As someone used to CLEAR/pre, it was pretty jarring to have to basically undress and unpack. All in, it was only about 15 mins total though security.

No other flights out of HVN, so literally just the one plane outside and the passengers leaving on it.

Boarding was by far the worst part. It was obvious they hadn’t done this before. They ignored all boarding groups, did not pre-board wheelchairs, and allowed people to board with oversize luggage. It gave me a new appreciation for all those obnoxious rules!

We waited on the very cold outdoor ramp for probably 15-20 minutes. It was maybe 40 degrees and I got rather grumpy around minute 15. We had to wait while they brought a wheelchair down the ramp, etc.

I paid the ~$30 for a carry on, even though I think it would be free (small backpack). Anyways, when I boarded, there was no overhead space left because the person next to me had a full size suitcase sideways in the bin.

So a little chaotic and annoyingly inefficient with some unforced errors.

That said, these are *incredibly* convenient routes for me, so overall I am pleased. The interior is pretty normal and I’d say a step up from Frontier and other ULCCs.
