I actually booked the night before and then could check-in "early" (but in reality it was really late). So if I was arriving on the 6th, I'd book the 5th but message the hotel saying I wouldn't be coming in until 7 a.m. on the 6th so they know not to give my room away. It was the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel in Dublin.
