The onus is on the airlines to check documentation at check in, then there's no need to check in the US. This is how it's worked in most countries since they re-opened the borders - you don't want to find out AFTER they've flown that they have covid.
There have been some reports of spot checks in the US on arrival, but they seem quite random. Whether that will change after next week, we'll see.
