Planes are never full on Thanksgiving Day, which is why there are so few flights. If you are ok enduring a reroute, there will be options for connections through CLT and PHL if the DCA-PIT flight cancels. Honestly, given AA's recent operational issues I would be vary wary of flying them around the holidays. Last week's meltdown should serve as another cautionary tale.
