I think aa does allow for a change if the aircraft swaps equipment but BA and most other airlines do not.
whilst the club suites are rolled out and aircraft are being brought back as air travel picks up the risk of an aircraft or equipment swap ( a swap could also be between a club suite 777 and a non club suite 777) booking for a particular aircraft type us risky.
at least just now you can cancel for a voucher for the full amount. In pre civud times the cheap I class fares would be non changeable and non refundable certainly ex uk.( ex us might have been changeable for a fee)
