Companion status by default expires at the end of the next January. I would be surprised if this is not the case.
Not how it works -- the link stays in place until replaced by a new companion appointment (and that change occurs in January).
But the companion status is linked realtime to the elite's status, whatever changes are reflected immediately -- and if the account is closed that might impact the linked status.
