On your other point, Pro Active Online Upgrades (POUGs) are common on new bookings, but sometimes they are still advertised even though they are gone. See here for more information: (link)
Thanks for that too. I've never knowingly received a POUG despite four years of BA Silver. Usually book directly into the class or to AA. I'm paying more attention from now on!
