As Dino suggests, this isn't about the Life offer in isolation. I gain as much as all other FTers from other ideas - both general information and offers/tricks - and therefore it's only fair that I share *any* offers I find so that others can benefit as much as me, for as long or short a time as the offers persist.

With regard to this offer in particular, I really doubt we're killing the goose. Firstly, whether or not I cancel my two year policy after one month, Tesco still pick up the same up front fee from NU. When I do a £5 quote, that comes out at £14.98. That's obviously less the the £50 promo, but Tesco must be aware of this situation; in the end it's all about averages and as I said early cancellations are irrelevant. In addition I reckon Tesco may be getting a volume based incentive from NU, or perhaps getting a high number of sign-ups will put them in a strong position when the reseller agreement comes up for renegotiation.

And to complete the loop, what about NU getting screwed over - in my example they'll be getting £5 from me and giving £14.98 to Tesco (they may even be subsidising the points offer which further betters the picture for Tesco). Well, they too will be looking at the averages - I've no doubt they make plenty of profit from Tesco-sold policys, and it's not like only Tesco policies suffer early cancellation so the upfront commissions reflect this. I took out a Friends Provident policy when I got my mortgage, and with the term and amount being much higher they paid my broker some £300 quid, but I cancelled after two months for a better priced policy so FP probably saw more of a loss on that one policy than NU will suffer on 10 FT policies.

Oh, and back on-topic. RJB, you might want to highlight that the basic 1point/£ on the basic clubcard is instore, but the 1point/£2 on the credit card is anywhere. And that we FTers use the Tesco credit card to continue collecting BA Miles when we want to delay the arrival of Amex voucher.
