I can confirm the return check-in issue. In February 2020, I had an F (award) ticket
BKK-NRT-IAH-MID on
TG-NH-UA, and though the TG agent didn't catch it, I was met in the jetway in IAH by an agent (not sure if NH or UA) saying that my bag had only been checked as far as IAH because the IAH-MID flight was more than 24-hours away when I checked in. Not a problem at IAH, since they have a Customer Service counter right behind the baggage re-check drop-off point and I had plenty of time.
