Are you talking about SFO-CDG? I have never known UA to double-cater for a round trip that long. Maybe for a couple of short domestic legs but that is about it. (Exceptions for unusual circumstances like CDG catering being on strike or something extreme like that.)
It used to be (but, I retired 10 years ago, so maybe it changed?) that liquor carts at international destinations only had soft drinks and dry supplies (cups, napkins, stir sticks) replenished. Downline caterers did not touch (including not adding) liquor for the return flight to the USA.
